Our Story
Founded in 1955 by William Sydney Engledoe, our funeral home has been a trusted presence in the heart of Cape Town for generations. What started as a small parlour in the City Bowl has grown into a family‑run business serving communities across the Western Cape. Throughout the decades, we have remained committed to compassionate, personalised care.
Heritage in the Western Cape
From the bustling streets of District Six to the serene vineyards of the Winelands, we have walked alongside families from every corner of our province. Our experience spans diverse cultures and traditions, and we honour each service with sensitivity and respect. Many Cape Towners know us for our attentive guidance during some of life’s most challenging moments.
Our Values
- Compassion: We approach every family with empathy, understanding that grief is deeply personal.
- Integrity: Transparency and honesty underpin everything we do, from pricing to service delivery.
- Tradition & Innovation: While we respect long‑held customs, we also embrace new approaches like eco‑friendly funerals and digital memorials.
- Local Service: As Cape Town locals, we understand the unique needs of our communities and collaborate with local suppliers and venues.
Looking Ahead
As our city grows and changes, so do we. We continue to invest in training, facilities and technology to provide respectful, modern services while staying true to our roots. Thank you for trusting WS Engledoe & Sons with your family’s final farewells.
