Privacy policy.
WS Engledoe & Sons Funerals respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it and how we protect it, in line with South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
Introduction
WS Engledoe & Sons Funerals (“we”, “us”, “our”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. This policy describes how we collect, use and safeguard your information when you visit this website, contact us or use our funeral services.
Information we collect
- Details you give us directly: your name, phone number, email address and the message you send through a form on this site or by phone, email or WhatsApp.
- Arrangement details: information needed to carry out a funeral, which may include details of the deceased, identity and address information, and funeral policy or cover details.
- Website usage: basic technical information such as pages visited, provided in aggregate by our hosting platform. Your dark-mode preference is stored only in your own browser.
How we use your information
- To respond to your enquiry and provide the funeral services you ask us for.
- To complete required documentation and obtain municipal permits on your behalf.
- To liaise with an insurer where you ask us to confirm or claim against a funeral policy.
- To keep records we are legally required to keep, and to improve this website.
Sharing your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only where it is necessary to deliver the service you have asked for — for example with cemeteries and crematoria, the relevant municipal or Home Affairs offices, an insurer you have asked us to contact, or trusted suppliers such as florists and caterers. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.
Retention
We keep arrangement records for as long as is necessary to fulfil the purpose they were collected for and to meet our legal and accounting obligations. Enquiries that do not lead to an arrangement are kept only as long as needed to respond to you.
Security
We take reasonable organisational and technical steps to protect personal information against loss, unauthorised access and misuse. Form submissions to this website are transmitted over an encrypted connection.
Your rights
Under POPIA you may ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to the way we use it. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below. You may also lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.
Cookies and third-party services
This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies. It loads fonts, icons and styling libraries from third-party content delivery networks, and embeds a Google Map on the contact section — those providers may receive your IP address as part of serving that content. Your theme preference is saved in your browser’s local storage and is never sent to us.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
